K. Karunakaran,The former Kerala chief minister was on Monday put on ventilator following his condition worsened this afternoon, a medical bulletin said. K. Karunakaran, who has been hospitalised for the past few days, was put on a ventilator and his condition continued to be critical.

Veteran Congress leader and former Kerala chief minister K. Karunakaran, hospitalised in Thiruvananthapuram for fever, was on Monday put on a ventilator after his condition became “slightly worrisome”.

He has breathlessness and his blood count is low. His kidneys are also not functioning properly, a doctor said.Karunakaran was admitted to a private hospital here following fever December 10.

“The condition of the 93-year-old leader was slightly worrisome and he has been given ventilator support since this afternoon,” a doctor at the Aananthapuri Hospital said.Mr. Karunakaran had been diagnosed with chest and urinary infection, hospital sources said.
